Now, her father insists she takes the International Trader&#8217;s Union Master&#8217;s License test\u2014a grueling challenge that requires her to board a ship in distress and take command.<\/p>\n<p>Kelleen wakes on a decrepit spaceship and discovers pirates have imprisoned its crew. To make matters worse, the ship has been rigged with demolition bombs. When Kelleen realizes that the ITU expected her father to intervene and save her, she knows he won&#8217;t\u2014doing so would invalidate the test. And then I looked at what I did and realized I had two different stories in one book. The whole did not equal the sum of the its parts. With a great big dramatic sigh, I split the book and now am working on giving a more complete accounting of events in each. Her paternalistic relatives wanted the throne for themselves. But she had two things the Icothir Mor&#8217;a&#8217;stani did not. The moral imperative of being the rightful ruler of Kyn, and the three thousand year old symbol of that right, Quajinn&#8217;s Sword.
